Citizens and especially vulnerable population groups are urged to avoid circulating in open spaces until the phenomenon of dust in the atmosphere has passed,
According to a relevant announcement, high concentrations of dust are currently observed in the atmosphere according to measurements from ground stations of the Air Quality Monitoring Network of the Department of Labour Inspection.
Because the dust contains small inhalable particles, which may have a negative effect on human health, the public and especially vulnerable population groups (children, elderly and sick) are advised to avoid circulating in open spaces until the phenomenon has passed.
Employers, it is added, based on the provisions of the Safety and Health at Work (Code of Practice for the Protection of Persons at Work during Dust Episodes) Decree of 2022 (Κ.Δ.Π. 410/2022) must take appropriate measures (organizational or technical) after assessing the risks to their employees who are in open spaces, and Employees in such areas are advised to use appropriate personal protective equipment.
The last hourly dust concentration values measured at 8 a.m. in the following areas were:
Nicosia 98,5 μg/m3,
Limassol 126,4 μg/m3,
Larnaca 53,6 μg/m3,
Paralimni 45,2 μg/m3,
Paphos 80,2 μg/m3,
Zygi 87,4 μg/m3
Agia Marina Xyliatou 58,2 μg/m3.
