Filenews 18 September 2023
More intensive checks throughout the road network of Cyprus are carried out by the Police, in order to detect and prevent serious traffic offences, which are proven to be the main causes of fatal and serious road collisions.
The Police campaign is part of the ROADPOL SAFETY DAYS 2023 program, which is taking place simultaneously at a pan-European level, from 16 to 22 September 2023.
During traffic checks, members of the Traffic Police place particular emphasis on offenses, which are the most frequent causes of fatal and serious road collisions, such as:
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Speeding
- Failure to wear a seat belt or safety helmet
- Reckless, dangerous or negligent driving
- Red light violation
- Non-free hands while driving (e.g. using a mobile phone)
- Negligent or dangerous overtaking
- Failure to give priority to a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing.
