ETAP PAPHOS - INNOVATIVE INFORMATION - OLD TREES AS MONUMENTS OF NATURE

ETAP PAPHOS - INNOVATIVE INFORMATION Elevation of centuries-old trees as monuments of nature The Society for Tourism Development and Promotion of the Paphos Region, continuing the efforts upgrading the tourist experience and implementing actions that contribute to its transformation district of Paphos in a smart destination (SMART destination) expands the digitization of information and the installation of smart signs to highlight century-old trees.

The district of Paphos has several centuries-old trees in various areas, so ETAP Paphos in cooperation with the Department of Forestry, which we warmly thank, has started the creation of smart signs highlighting the monuments of nature. To date this innovative approach has been applied for Tremithos of Simos, a 1000-year-old natural monument, the well-known "Kyparisso" - Agios Nikolaos in 700-year-old seat, 700-year-old olive tree in the Municipality of Poles, 170-year-old oak in the Prodromi, oak, pine and olive from 120 to 500 years old in the community of Gialia.

Now the century-old trees are highlighted through the use of technology, with smart signs information, environmentally friendly which offer interactivity. The user/visitor after initially scanning the QR code, he can choose its language from his smart device of his liking, while he is offered a wide range of information options. In the specific cases, information is provided for each tree, for the protection of forests, the advantages what trees offer to man and to nature, the life cycle of trees, advice on preservation and protection of nature, etc., as well as rich, photographic material, video, 360 tour, etc.

In the coming weeks, the implementation of the fourth phase of creating smart signs will be completed which includes another 20 points of interest across the province from a total of 50 signs to date
