DISABLED CHILD EXCLUDED FROM THE BEACH

Filenews 4 September 2023 - by Despina Psilliou

The expulsion of a 13-year-old disabled person from Agia Triada beach in Paralimni is denounced by his parents.

According to a complaint sent to Commissioners and competent bodies, which is also owned by "F", a few days ago they visited the beach, and there for a trivial and absurd reason as they describe it, the person in charge of the beds and umbrellas verbally and physically attacked them, threatened them and forced them to leave.

"We are a family of five and our eldest son, aged 13, is a child with disabilities. On 23/08/23 we visited Agia Triada beach around 12:00, which was full of people." As noted, there was only one sunbed free which the parents moved a little further to the left so that they could put the 13-year-old in the water. While the father was swimming with his three children, he realized that there was a disturbance on the shore.

The municipality official, shouting, said that the sunbeds cannot be moved. Adamant to hear the mother's explanations, he asked her to move their belongings as they could no longer use the sunbed.

The father, believing that this was a misunderstanding, sought to speak with the municipal worker, who continued to shout. "I gave reasons why we needed the sunbed, but he was adamant and continued to misbehave. Because of his behaviour and thinking about my family, I decided to leave. This gentleman began to follow me. He constantly shouted and threatened that if I dared to touch any sunbed, he would beat me. When I approached my family, he grabbed me by the left arm and tried to push me twice. I shook my hand, saying that he has no right to touch me. He replied that he doesn't care if he loses his job or if it will have repercussions since he will beat me."

The other two children, 11 and 5 years old, started crying and asked to leave. The family called the police, who went to the scene, receiving testimonies.

For his part, Paralimni Mayor Theodoros Pyrillis told "F" that he will personally investigate the complaint. If any misconduct has been committed, he said, appropriate measures will be taken.
