The Pafos District Court sentenced today to ten months in prison a 58-year-old man from a village in Paphos.
He was found guilty in a previous trial for injuring a neighbour's dog in Tremithousa as well as for threats he made against the owner of the house he rented in the same village.

Members of the Nicosia OPE conducted yesterday between the hours of 8pm and 10.30pm, an operation to combat the phenomenon of illegal possession, trafficking and trade of duty-free tobacco products and fraudulent evasion of consumption taxes and VAT.
During the operation, 56 boxes of cigarettes, 19 boxes of heated cigarettes and two boxes of tobacco were found in a 56 year-old man's vehicle in Nicosia district.
The 56-year-old along with his vehicle were taken to the local Police Station, where officers of the Chief Customs were called, who arrested him and confiscated the found.
The case was settled out of court with the payment of €2,500 by the 56-year-old, who was subsequently released.

Police arrested another 55-year-old man at dawn today as part of an investigation into a case involving arson.
Specifically, at around 10.20pm on September 7, 2023, a fire broke out in three vehicles, which were parked in a residential parking lot in Nicosia. The fire spread to the house, causing extensive damage, while all three vehicles were completely destroyed. Subsequent examinations at the scene revealed that the fire was set maliciously.
For the same case, another 61-year-old person was arrested on September 2023, who is held on an eight-day detention.

A 60-year-old woman was attacked by two dogs yesterday afternoon and injured.
According to the police, on the afternoon of Thursday 21/9, a 60-year-old woman took her dog for a walk and while walking in the area of Kolymvitiri, they were attacked by two other stray large dogs.
The attack injured the dog and the 60-year-old. After a fall, the woman was taken to the opium hospital and diagnosed with a fractured leg.
Police are continuing to search for the owners of the two dogs who were unattended.

The case of premeditated murder of 58-year-old Ioannis Polycarpos against a 45-year-old British permanent resident of Pafos is being heard today before the Pafos Assize Court.

The defendant in the case is a 45-year-old British. The case was rescheduled today at the Pafos Permanent Assize Court, but was postponed until October 25 to allow time to decide whether to amend the indictment.
According to the representative of the Prosecution, Lawyer of the Republic Andreas Hadjikyrou, the issue of amending the indictment was raised before the General Prosecutor's Office and a response is awaited. The 45-year-old's defense lawyer, lawyer Alexandros Alexandrou, did not object to the Prosecution's request for further scheduling of the case.
The Court adjourned the case to schedule the hearing on October 25, 2023, at 09:30 in the morning and ordered that the 45-year-old defendant remain in custody in the central prison.

The 18-year-old who was arrested yesterday for possession of drugs and specifically cannabis exceeding 3.5 kilos does not cooperate and does not answer the questions of the investigators of the Limassol YKAN.
The suspect was brought today before the Limassol District Court for a request for detention. The court ordered his detention for a period of seven days.
According to information provided to Philenews, the members of YKAN reached the traces of the 18-year-old, after his genetic material was linked to the cannabis packages placed in the parcel, sent to Greece.
Specifically, the genetic material of the suspect was identified in three different samples made on the evidence, by the Institute of Genetics. Also, it was revealed that both the sender and the recipient of the drugs listed on the parcel are non-existent persons. According to the same information, effigies were placed in the parcel with the drugs and it was sent to Greece But so far the parcel was not received by any person.
Investigators in the case are investigating the origin of the drugs as well as the supplier. It is recalled that on September 18, an unknown person went to a courier company in Limassol, where he delivered a parcel, in order to be delivered to a specific address in Greece. Due to the strong smell emanating from the parcel, suspicions were raised that it may contain narcotics and the YKAN was informed.
Members of YKAN went to the company's offices and after checking the parcel, they found that inside there were four packages containing a quantity of cannabis, gross weight 3 kg and about 500 grams.
From the continuation of the examinations, testimony was obtained against an 18-year-old resident of Limassol, who was arrested yesterday afternoon under a court warrant, to facilitate the investigations. A search of his home followed, during which a quantity of cannabis, with a gross weight of 14 grams, was located and seized. A precision scale, a crusher and two mobile phones were also seized.
The YKAN (Limassol District Unit) is investigating the case.
