The 45-year-old British man accused of murdering 58-year-old Ioannis Polycarpos in January 2023 will be brought before the Pafos Permanent Assize Court today. The defendant pleaded not guilty to the main charge he faces, that of premeditated murder. He also pleaded not guilty to charges of possession of burglary tools, assault weapon and cannabis, while admitting to cannabis use.
The unfortunate Polycarpou who was riding a small displacement motorcycle on the night of 21s January on Tombs of the Kings Avenue. He was fatally injured when he was deliberately swept away, according to the charge, by a vehicle driven by the 45-year-old British man who fled the scene. A short time earlier, they had argued in a nightclub where they were both having fun.
The 58-year-old was injured in the collision and taken by ambulance to Paphos General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead while the British man tried to erase the traces of impact on his vehicle using paint. The process will continue tomorrow and 22 September. The British man has been held in central prison since last January.

Police arrested two more people today, as part of an investigation into a case involving a migrant smuggling ring to Cyprus.
Those arrested allegedly participated in a criminal organization dealing with migrant smuggling by sea, while four more persons were arrested for the same case on 11/09/2023.
The two arrested were brought today before the Nicosia District Court, which issued an eight-day detention order against them to facilitate interrogations.
Also, the four, who were in eight-day detention, were brought before the Nicosia District Court, where their detention order was renewed for another eight days.

Police arrested two people today as part of an investigation into a case involving vehicle theft, theft from a vehicle, as well as traffic offenses.
Specifically, a 57-year-old man reported to the Police that today at noon, his car, which was parked in an area of Larnaka, with the keys in the ignition, was stolen. A 43-year-old man also reported that today, a bag containing a €500 tablet and a bank card was stolen from his car, which was parked in the yard of his home in Larnaca. The car was unlocked with the keys in the ignition.
During the examinations, at around 2.20 p.m., today, members of the Larnaka Police Department located the 57-year-old's vehicle, in which two persons aged 38 were passing. The members of the Police asked them to get out of the vehicle, which one of them did, while the second escaped from the place driving recklessly and dangerously (at breakneck speed and in oncoming traffic).
Then, the stolen vehicle collided with an island of the road and stopped, while the 38-year-old tried to flee on foot, but was arrested by the members of the Police.
Further tests revealed that the 38-year-old driver did not hold a driver's license and underwent a preliminary drug test with a positive indication.
A subsequent search inside the vehicle found, among other things, the bag with the tablet and three knives.
The two suspects were arrested and detained to facilitate interrogations.

The arrest of a 62-year-old man was carried out yesterday afternoon by members of the Police, as part of an investigation into a case of possession and supply of drugs.
The arrest of the 62-year-old was preceded by a search warrant at his home in Limassol, where at various points, a quantity of cannabis weighing about 79 grams was found, as well as a precision scale and a plastic crusher.
The 62-year-old was subsequently taken into custody to facilitate interrogations.

He lit a fire, injured a police officer and ended up in the cell, where he will remain until he is tried for the offences he is accused of. The reason is the 53-year-old who has occupied the authorities several times in various cases.
The reason he was arrested this time was the lighting of a fire without permission in an outdoor area and specifically in the village of Lythrodontas last Sunday. When the fire was noticed, members of the relevant police station responded, who went to the scene.
However, as soon as the illegality was pointed out to him, the 53-year-old reportedly reacted. According to the police, he insulted the members of the Force, threatened and attacked one of them. The latter, as it was found after his transfer to the Accident and Emergency Department of Nicosia General Hospital, had suffered a subcutaneous hematoma on the wrist of the hand.
D.D. was placed under arrest, while the day before yesterday a criminal case was registered against him at the Nicosia District Court. The indictment includes several offenses, including lighting a fire without permission, publicly insulting, assaulting a police officer, resisting lawful arrest, threats and causing actual bodily harm.
The Court decided that the accused should remain in custody until the conclusion of the trial.

On 6 September, the police registered cases before the Pafos District Court against 17 of those arrested in the incidents in Chlorakaof the previous days.
The court set the start of the hearing for those defendants for today and ordered that they remain free on parole thereafter.
They are eight Greek Cypriots, eight Syrians and one Greek. The conditions imposed on all of them are to sign a bail of €15,000, while all but one national guard and two students present themselves at police stations twice a week.
In addition to the 17, another 11 people arrested have already been charged in the past few days and will also be brought to justice.

A wanted 36-year-old man arrested on Monday night at Paphos airport for an eight-year-old case of causing grievous bodily harm, was released with conditions on Tuesday.
According to the police, the man appeared before the Paphos District Court on Tuesday. The Paphos court ordered that the 36-year-old be released on condition, pending the completion of the court proceedings.
The offense was committed in 2015 when the arrested man allegedly caused serious bodily harm to another person in Geroskipou.

Last night, members of the Police arrested two persons, a 39-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman, as part of an investigation into a case of drug possession, drug possession with the intention of supplying other persons and money laundering. The arrest of the above persons was preceded shortly after eight last night by the interception of their vehicle, while it was driving in an area of Nicosia province.
