The suspected Israelis, aged 19 and 20, were brought back before the Famagusta District Court in Paralimni for the gang rape of a 20-year-old British woman in a hotel room in Ayia Napa on Sunday, September 3. The detention order for the five Israelis was renewed for another six days pending the completion of scientific examinations.
It is noted that two of the five suspects did not appear before the Court after being diagnosed with Covid-19 and were represented by their lawyers.
The 5 suspects face offences of rape, sexual abuse, forced intercourse, indecent assault, sexual harassment and kidnapping. The 20-year-old tourist reported being gang-raped by a number of Israelis in the hotel room.
The girl went from another hotel with her friends to the hotel where the suspects were staying, where a pool party was held. According to her complaint, while at the venue, she was approached by an unknown person, who was Israeli, and began flirting with her. Subsequently, the young man, according to the complaint of the complainant, allegedly grabbed her by the hand and forcibly led her to the room in which he was staying with four other compatriots.
There, the 20-year-old claimed, she was raped successively by people who followed him. It is noted that injuries and bruises were found on the girl's body, which has been recorded in the forensic report.
The five Israelis, who were in Cyprus on holiday, deny raping the 20-year-old, with three of them, according to Philenews, claiming they had no contact with her. The issue is covered extensively by international media and is linked to the case of the 19-year-old British woman, who had reported being gang-raped by 12 Israelis four years ago.
