New arrest in the case of the National Guardsman. The police announced that in the context of investigating the offenses, conspiracy to commit a felony, kidnapping/kidnapping, assault causing actual bodily harm, unjust concealment/restraint of a snatched person, etc., the police have just arrested a person.
This is a 27-year-old man who was detained to facilitate interrogations.

Police arrested two people yesterday afternoon as part of an investigation into a series of cases of burglary and theft committed in the areas of Protaras, Ayia Napa and the free area of Famagusta.
They are men aged 53 and 48 who were detained to facilitate interrogations.
The arrest of the above persons was preceded yesterday by a coordinated operation by members of the Famagusta ICF, following an evaluation and investigation of information over the last month, concerning burglaries and thefts in the free area of Famagusta.
After surveillance, the members of the Police stopped for inspection yesterday afternoon in Larnaka, a car, in which the two arrested were traveling.
During the interception of the vehicle, these persons attacked and beat the members of the Police and tried to escape, where eventually they were stopped and arrested (warning shots were fired).
Subsequently, a search was carried out at the house where they live based on a court warrant, during which they found amounts of money in banknotes of various countries, jewellery, gold, watches, shoes and other property, which is believed to have been stolen from houses burglarized in the free area of Famagusta, while burglary tools were also found in their possession.

The Police proceeded to the arrest of a 27-year-old man, in connection with an investigated kidnapping case, which, according to the evidence under investigation, allegedly took place last Monday, August 28, in the district of Paphos, with a young man as the victim. The investigation of the case proceeded ex officio by the Police, with the young man who was allegedly kidnapped, having not filed a relevant complaint.
The 27-year-old suspect was arrested on Thursday night by members of the Pafos ICF, pursuant to a court warrant, which was obtained after evidence emerged during the investigation of the case by the ICF. He was taken into custody for police examinations, with police investigating a case of committing the offences of kidnapping/kidnapping, wrongful concealment/restraint of a kidnapped or abducted person, assault causing actual bodily harm, and conspiracy to commit a felony and misdemeanor.
A second suspect, a 22-year-old man who, according to the evidence under investigation, allegedly posted on his personal account on a social media platform, photos with content related to the kidnapping case and possibly inciting violence or committing criminal offences, was arrested on Wednesday, August 30, also under a court warrant.
The 22-year-old suspect was brought on Thursday before the Pafos District Court, which, at the request of the Police, issued an eight-day detention order for the purpose of investigating a case of illegal possession and transport of a firearm and explosives, causing and inciting violence, and arousal to commit a criminal offence.

From further examinations that followed, it was found that the above persons arrived in Cyprus via Turkey, where they then passed from the occupied to the free areas from an unknown point.
According to testimonies, the two arrested appear to be involved in burglaries and thefts, committed in the years 2021 – 2022, in the same areas with the same mode of action.
The 48-year-old had an outstanding court warrant for his arrest since 2021, under another name, after appearing to have made a name change in his country three times in the past three years.
The 53-year-old was also wanted since 2021 as part of an investigation into the same cases.
More than 100 cases of burglary and theft, committed between 2021 and 2023, in the Famagusta district are being investigated against the two suspects.

A bomb exploded shortly after 3 a.m. in the vehicle of a 28-year-old referee of the First Division, outside his home in the area of Agios Spyridon in the Limassol district.
According to the police, around 3.30 in the morning, they received a report of an explosion in a vehicle that was parked in an area outside the house of the 28-year-old.
From the explosion, the vehicle suffered extensive damage, while the scene was cordoned off by members of the Police for examinations.

A notice of payment of €15,69 was issued to a couple,aged 50 and 69 respectively, in whose possession a quantity of duty-free tobacco products was found. They were found in possession of 19 boxes of heated cigarettes, 2 boxes of cigarettes, boxes of tobacco, as well as a quantity of hookah tobacco.
The 69-year-old and 50-year-old were spotted moving by car on a dirt road in Athienou, coming from the area of Louroutzina, shortly after 4.30 yesterday afternoon. They were stopped for inspection by members of the Green Line Surveillance and Migration Response Subdivision. In a search of their vehicle, by officers of the Department of Customs, the duty-free tobacco products were found, which were confiscated.
A purse, a purse and two shoulder bags, three waist belts, and a bottle of refrigerated gas, weighing 12kg, were also found and confiscated in the vehicle. According to the two suspects, they themselves bought the items from the occupied areas of the Republic.
Upon completion of the investigations, the officers of the Department of Customs and Excise proceeded to the arrest of the 69-year-old and the 50-year-old, to whom they issued an out-of-court notice of payment of the amount of €15,000, for the possession of the found duty-free products.
A notice of payment of €1,700, also for possession of duty-free tobacco products, was also issued yesterday to a 50-year-old man. In his possession were found 12 boxes of cigarettes, 5 boxes of heated cigarettes, two boxes of tobacco, as well as 25 boxes of yogurt, and a container of four liters of oil, which he allegedly bought from the occupied areas and transported to the free areas, through the crossing point in Agios Dometios.
The 50-year-old was subjected to a check by members of the Police and the Customs and Excise Department, at the Ayios Dometios crossing point, during a coordinated control operation, carried out yesterday by members of the Nicosia OPE and officers of the Department of Customs.
During yesterday's operation, 67 persons were searched and 53 vehicles were searched. In the possession of a number of persons, a total of 8 boxes of heated cigarettes, two boxes of cigarettes, and 10 liters of gasoline, purchased in the occupied areas, were found. Corresponding out-of-court payment notices, for the amount of €370, were issued to their holders.
