In anticipation of the cosmogonic changes that will occur in the coming years in the Akamas peninsula, with the implementation of the provisions of the Management Plan, lovers of the unique ecosystem already have the opportunity to enjoy more and more parts of the vast space, thanks to the enriching actions of state, community and social actors in the area.
The new projects that have already passed from planning on paper to implementation are two new thematic routes. One in Ineia, focusing on the goddess of beauty, and one in Arodes, focusing on one of the most characteristic plants of the Cypriot flora, matsikorid.
Aphrodite is at the heart of the new work in Ineia, which concerns a thematic route. The route connects environmental, religious and historical points of interest in the area and it is expected that in combination with other projects completed or promoted in the community by the Pafos District Administration will attract visitors and create conditions for new jobs.
As it is known, the redevelopment of the core and the Turtle Museum in the square have been completed in the community, which has also been embellished in recent years.
The thematic route Aphrodite, based on the contract, will cost almost two million euros plus VAT and the duration of execution will be 24 months. The project is included in the State Budget through the Pafos District Administration, while there is approval in principle for funding from the EU Recovery and Resilience Plan.
The popular route of dozens of visitors to the area, mainly on weekends and holiday periods, is the Matsikorido route, in Pano Arodes, created as part of the Pafos 2017 Akamas Project. The route starts and ends at the community square, while in between it follows a course with two legs, depending on the choices of each hiker: Either the short route of three kilometers that ends at the habitat of matsikorides, or the long route of 10 kilometers, with hikers admiring the gorges and the sea of Akamas.
