The unsettled climate that prevails in recent days in Chloraka between residents of the community and foreigners residing in the area, seems to be transferred to the city of Limassol, with the Police being put on alert for fear of new incidents.
Fears are real, with the police being called to a full requisition to maintain order and with the main aim of avoiding the worst-case scenario. The protest, which has been advertised and promoted for the last 24 hours through social media posts, speaks of a march at 8pm today in Epichosi, with various Greek Cypriots calling on citizens to come en masse, demanding, as they note, their safety.
At the same time, there are fears of the participation of different groups. Information obtained by the Police indicate that SYFI of Limassol groups intend to take part in the protest, saying that on the issue of immigration, they leave aside any fan differences they have. In the shadow of the protest, as "F" is informed, a meeting was held yesterday at the Ministry of Justice under Minister Anna Koukkidou Prokopiou in the presence of the leadership of the Police and the police directors of all districts, where specific measures and decisions were taken.
An action plan has been drawn up and a crisis centre will operate at the Limassol Police Headquarters. In fact, since yesterday an operation order has been issued. Police sources note that all personnel of the Limassol Police Force will be on foot, while 150 members of anti-riot squads as well as platoons of the MMAD from all districts will be on duty in the city. The event will be monitored by cameras and police drones that will be set up for this purpose.
A person who has been employed by the authorities as an organizer of other protests in the past, came yesterday to the Limassol Police Headquarters and spoke with senior officers about their intentions, assuring, according to information, that there will be no incidents.
It should be noted that another protest march is planned on Saturday, this time in favour of foreigners and migrants and against fascist pogroms, as noted in relevant posts. The march will take place at 7 p.m. at Enaerios.
