Tens of millions of euros have ended up in state coffers in recent years, as part of the campaign to reduce backlog of work launched by the Tax Department in 2017 and which continues to this day.
According to relevant data included in the annual report of the Tax Department, thousands of taxes have been imposed in the last two years, resulting in the state collecting an amount of €250 million.
At the same time, more than one million taxes were cleared. Also, for the first time, the clearance of the protective year (in the case of the year 2022) 2016 has been achieved with only 745 personal taxes outstanding.
Moreover, during the period 2021-2022, taxes have been imposed on approximately 204,000 natural and legal persons, of which 177,000 concern natural persons and 27,000 companies.
The competent department proceeded with the imposition of income tax of €35 million. while the refundable income tax was €18.4 million. excluding interest and charges.
At the same time, taxes were imposed on the special defence levy and the special contribution of an official.
In addition, and as a continuation of the work backlog clearance, the automated mass imposition of taxes continued for the tax years 2012-2019 for legal entities and for the tax years 2014-2018 for natural persons.
In addition, during the same period, the Tax Department cleared one million taxes.
Specifically, 450,000 personal taxes for the tax years 2014-2018, have been cleared with income tax payable €49.3 million. and refundable income tax of €14.5 million. not including interest.
Another 537 corporate taxes were also cleared for the tax years 2012-2019 with tax payable, €165.6 million. income and refundable income tax of €27.4 million
In addition, taxes were levied on a special contribution for defence and a special contribution of an official.
In the meantime, part of the backlog clearance campaign is to settle appeals relating to past tax years and the reporting time has passed.
The number of unresolved appeals at the end of 2022 decreased to 8,020 compared to 9,137 at the beginning of the year.
Finally, during the year a total of 13,191 new objections were received and registered for all types of taxes and within the year 14,308 objections were settled.
