Coordinated operations with the participation of members of the police stations of Paralimni, Ayia Napa, as well as members of the OPE, ICF, Famagusta Traffic Police, Famagusta Police Department, Famagusta Police Station and members of the M.M.A.D., took place in the tourist areas of Protaras and Ayia Napa, in the framework of the implementation of an action plan of the Famagusta Police Directorate in the tourist areas of Protaras and Ayia Napa.
During the operations, checks were carried out on 81 premises and 120 persons were checked. There were also 291 traffic complaints and 68 breathalyzer tests were carried out, from which 2 complaints for driving under the influence of alcohol emerged.
In the context of police checks to combat illegal employment and employment as well as illegal stay, the members of the Police proceeded to a total of 8 arrests of third-country nationals who were found to be staying illegally in the territory of the Republic, while 3 foreign asylum seekers who were working without the relevant permit were arrested.
Their Greek Cypriot employers were charged in writing to be summoned to court later. In the context of tackling and combating noise pollution from recreation centers, as well as the operation of recreation centers without the required licenses as provided by the Recreation Centers for Sound Broadcasting Law 50(i)/2016, the Entertainment Centers Law 29/85 and the Municipalities Law 52(i)/2022, a total of 18 complaints of nightclubs were carried out by members of the Famagusta OPE and the Paralimni and Agia Napa Police Stations, of which 16 concerned complaints about violation of the Law 50(i)/2016 on entertainment centers (sound emission licenses), 11 without an operating license from the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, 4 without an operating license from the competent Municipal Authority, 9 without a license to sell alcoholic beverages, while 3 music and dance centers were also reported for violating the closing hours and for selling alcoholic beverages in violation of their license terms.
In addition, 5 arrests of Greek Cypriots aged 19 were carried out by members of the MMAD for the offenses of public insult to members of the police and the illegal possession and transfer of explosives without permission from the explosives inspector (122 BEAM cartridges and 9 MOKO cartridges of Floper type) in a motor vehicle and after being charged in writing for the offences they committed, they were released.
Finally, 3 arrests of foreigners aged 20, 27 and 22 were carried out by members of the OPE and the MMAD for the offences of fighting, assaulting a police officer, obstructing a police officer in the performance of his duty, worrying and disturbing the peace.
All those arrested, after being charged in writing, were released to be summoned later.
The coordinated operations of the Famagusta Police Department will continue throughout the tourist season.
