Primary school students in Cyprus will not be allowed to wear a digital watch in the classroom, Philenews reported on Wednesday citing an Education Ministry circular.
In view of the start of the new school year early in September, the instructions are specific and clear.
“Because it is not possible for teachers to carry out a daily check of these watches, whether or not they carry a phone card or whether they can be connected via Bluetooth wireless network with a mobile phone device, carrying and using such a watch is prohibited,” the circular said.
However, the circular also noted that digital exercise watches which are not capable of being used as mobile phones or capable of exchanging data via Bluetooth, but which record the child’s daily physical activity only, are allowed to be used. But parents must inform the school via a letter first.
As for mobile phones, the Ministry reminds that it is prohibited for students to carry them and for teachers to use them during working hours.
