Preparations are hectic in Pafos for the descent on Friday of Mr. Robert Menendez. In a special ceremony that will take place at the Pafos Municipal Hall on Friday 25 August at 6.00 p.m., the title of Honorary Citizen of the City of Pafos will be awarded to the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations of the United States Senate, Mr. Robert Menendez.
The official ceremony will be preceded by a visit by the US Senator to the facilities of the American University under construction in our city, accompanied by the Mayor of Pafos and the Rector of the University.
The award of this title is made by decision of the Municipal Council date. 22.12.2022 based on the following reasoning:
(a) For his long and tireless action, especially as a member of the Senate of the United States of America, in defending, promoting and safeguarding respect for International Law, freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law as principles of universal scope.
(b) In an expression of the gratitude of the citizens of Pafos for their unwavering and consistent support over time to the lifting of the Turkish occupation of Cyprus and the restoration of basic human rights and fundamental freedoms for all Cypriots through the achievement of a viable and lasting solution of the Cyprus Problem that will reunite the country and its people.
(c) For its contribution to the formulation and promotion for the Eastern Mediterranean of a vision of peaceful coexistence and cooperation in an environment of security, stability and prosperity, on the basis of International Law.
(d) For the fact that at a critical juncture for humanity he is a shining example of an inspired politician who, through his words and actions, provides support to the weak against the strong and strengthens faith in justice in all its manifestations.
(e) In support of the fact that with his overall action to defend the interests of Hellenism of major importance, he emerged as a true and selfless philhellene, worthy of the gratitude and deep appreciation of Greeks everywhere.
The ceremony will be open to the public and will be broadcast live on social media.
