KATO PAPHOS - THE AERIAL FOOTBRIDGE CAUSES FAVOURABLE VISITOR REVIEWS

Filenews 16 August 2023 - by Dora Christodoulou

The promoted unification of the archaeological sites in Kato Pafos and especially the use of the only aerial footbridge in Cyprus that connects antiquities in a large area, has already begun to bear "fruits" for the area.

According to competent authorities, the number of visitors to the archaeological treasures of Kato Pafos has skyrocketed since the summer of 2022, mainly among Cypriot visitors who rush to the area to see a work unique in Cyprus and to walk over the archaeological treasures through the pedestrian bridge, gaining a panoramic view of all the archaeological sites of Kato Paphos.

The project has particularly benefited the archaeological site on Fabrica Hill, a part of the city's archaeological wealth considered by many experts to be equal to the corresponding antiquities of Petra in Jordan.

The hill of Fabrica, on the road leading from the centre of Pafos to the coastal front of the city, was in antiquity the Acropolis of Pafos. This emerges from the ongoing excavations in the area for 12 years by a French archaeological mission, led by Dr. Claire Balandier, Professor of Archaeology and Ancient Greek History at the University of Avignon, France.

Dr. Balandier described the quarries that existed in antiquity on this hill as the most important that have been discovered, after those in Petra in Jordan and Sicily. Now, more and more visitors come to Pafos informed about the great archaeological importance of this area, while from the point of view of the scientific community, the hill of Fabrica occupies a dominant position in studies and excavations.
