A new subsidy scheme for solar hot water production systems in homes was approved yesterday by the Council of Ministers.
The plan provides for the subsidy of both the installation and replacement of integrated water heating systems such as cylinder and solar panels. The scheme concerns the renewal of the existing scheme with increased subsidies in certain categories and an increase in the total envelope, from €600,000 to €2 million. A total of 3,000 homes will benefit from the scheme compared to 1,800 homes provided for in the plan implemented in 2022.
The grant amount per application/residence for the general category amounts to €500, an amount increased by €50 compared to the corresponding scheme that was implemented in 2022. For homes where vulnerable electricity consumers reside, the amount of the grant amounts to €500 and for homes that fall in mountainous areas €900.
It is noted that the equipment to be installed should be included in the list of eligible equipment and its installation should be done by participating certified installers from a list of participating installers. The submission process will remain valid until 20/12/2023 or until the final submission of 3,000 applications, whichever comes first.
Please note that mountain areas are defined solely on the basis of a postal code. The list of postal codes that identify mountainous areas can be found on the website of the RES and EE Fund. Houses whose postal code is not included in the above list cannot be considered as falling within mountainous areas.
The proposal was submitted to the Council of Ministers by the Minister of Commerce. The Plan is funded by the Recovery and Resilience Facility under the axis "Rapid transition to a green economy". The plan received the agreement of the Technical Committee of the Cyprus Recovery and Resilience Plan and the Commissioner of State Aid Control.
