Videos have been circulating online showing civilians beating firefighters during the fire that broke out in Alassa last Friday.
In a statement, the Police Branch of ASDYK condemns the verbal assault, inappropriate behavior and insult that members of the Fire Service received from citizens during the extinguishing of the large fire in mountainous Limassol.
According to an announcement by the presidium of KAS-ASDYK, which represents members of the Fire Brigade, "it is inconceivable that in the midst of an operation to extinguish such a large fire, citizens should assault members of the Fire Service".
"Our firefighters selflessly fight daily battles to save human lives and property," it said, adding that firefighters have proven many times their professionalism and excess of duty, for the benefit of the Cypriot citizen.
It is noted that the bad psychological situation suffered by citizens when faced with a difficult situation is understandable, but "such behaviours are unacceptable" and measures should be taken so that there is no similar incident in the future.
It is stated that the Fire Brigade should perform its duty unhindered.
"We wish our colleagues in the Fire Brigade good strength in their difficult work and always safely. There is no one left over," the statement concluded.
