CRIME ROUND UP

 Pafos Live 21 August 2023

An apartment in a complex in Polis Chrysochous was targeted by two Georgians who are frequent "customers" of the police.

Citizens noticed that outside the complex was a double-cab vehicle loaded with furniture, household effects and other equipment. They called the police, but as soon as they noticed the officers, the two Georgians, aged 48 and 41, tried to run away.

They were intercepted and arrested by the police, indicating to the members of the force the apartment which they had emptied.

In the context of the investigation of the offences of illegal entry into the territory of the Republic of Cyprus and the prohibited migrant, the Police proceeded yesterday afternoon to the arrest of four persons.

The arrest of the four people, aged 30, 27, 23 and 18, followed the arrival on the shores of Cyprus of a boat carrying a total of 86 irregular migrants.

Specifically, yesterday afternoon, the radar of the Port and Maritime Police detected an unknown boat sailing in the sea area southeast of Cape Greco.

The boat, approximately 13 meters long, was intercepted by a boat of the Port and Maritime Police, at a distance of 12 nautical miles from the coast of Cyprus and it was found that 86 irregular migrants (57 men, 6 women and 23 children) were on board.

The irregular migrants boarded a police boat and were safely transported to the Ayia Napa marina.

From the examinations that followed, testimony was secured against the four persons concerned, as the pilots of the boat.

The remaining irregular migrants were transferred to the Reception and Accommodation Centre for Applicants for International Protection (Pournara).

The ICF of Famagusta continues the examinations.
