Members of the Police arrested two persons, aged 27 and 28, today for the purpose of investigating a case of drug importation.

According to the data under investigation, following a relevant check carried out on a package that arrived from abroad at a post office in Cyprus, suspicions were raised that drugs were inside the package and the Anti-Narcotics Service – YKAN was informed accordingly.

This morning, the 27-year-old suspect went to a post office in Nicosia, where he presented himself as the recipient of the package. Upon receipt of the package, members of the YKAN immediately proceeded to check the suspect and arrest him for a flagrant offense, since it was found that the postal package contained a quantity of methamphetamine weighing approximately 1 kg.

Outside the post office was the second suspect, aged 28, who at the sight of the members of the Police tried to flee but did not succeed, resulting in his arrest.

The two arrested were detained while the YKAN (Nicosia Unit) continues its examinations.

A 35-year-old man wanted in connection with an ongoing case of assault causing actual bodily harm, theft and public insult was located and arrested this afternoon.

The ICF of Larnaca continues the examinations.

Cyprus Police 

Three persons were arrested by members of the Police, in relation to investigated cases of theft, committed in the province of Famagusta. This is a case of theft of money from the monks of a monastery and cases of theft of four vehicles, which are being investigated by the TAE Famagusta and the Police Station of Agia Napa. For the theft of money from two monks of a monastery, a man and a woman, aged 33 and 46 respectively, were arrested last night, pursuant to court warrants, and were taken into custody for the purpose of police examinations. According to the evidence under review and the complaint submitted to the Police in the afternoon of August 09, sums of money were stolen from the monastery church vault, as well as the vault located in a cave near the monastery, in the province of Famagusta. The case is being investigated by the TAE of Famagusta. In connection with the theft of four vehicles, a 22-year-old man was arrested yesterday afternoon, also on a warrant, who was taken into custody for police examination purposes. The cases under consideration concern the theft of two four-wheeled buggy-type motorcycles, a four-wheeled moped, and a motorcycle, crimes committed in August, in the province of Famagusta and reported to the TAE Famagusta and the Agia Napa Police Station. So far, one buggy motorcycle, the quad bike, and the motorcycle have been located, while the search for the second buggy motorcycle is ongoing.
