CHLORAKAS - VEHICLE CHECKS AND FURTHER ARRESTS

The police presence was also very strong last night both in the community of Chloraka and in the wider area.

There were no incidents and no gatherings of citizens. Members of the force proceeded to dozens of vehicle interceptions and driver checks.

The checks revealed four complaints from drivers of possession of offensive instruments such as knives and knuckledusters.

Police made two new arrests yesterday to facilitate investigations into the incidents that took place in recent days in the Chlorakas area.

A 34-year-old resident of the Pafos district was arrested first, pursuant to a court warrant. Among other things, offences such as incitement and incitement to violence, agitation to commit a criminal offence, publication of false news and offences in violation of the Law on combating certain forms and expressions of racism are being investigated against him.

Shortly afterwards, a 29-year-old man was arrested, against whom a court arrest warrant was pending, issued after testimony was obtained against him regarding the above incidents. 

In the meantime, as part of the measures taken by the Police to prevent further incidents, they carried out patrols and checks in the area during last night.

A total of 150 vehicles were stopped for inspection. Five people were arrested for possession of drugs or offensive instruments, while three other drivers were reported to have tested positive for narcotics.

Specifically, they were arrested:

·20-year-old woman for possession of a small quantity of drugs;
23-year-old for possession of offensive instruments (knife and knuckleduster);
21-year-old for possession of an offensive instrument (knife);
23-year-old for possession of offensive instruments (knives and metal pipe) and
25-year-old for illegal possession of explosives (detonated firework)

All those arrested, except the 23-year-old, were charged in writing and released to be summoned to court. The 23-year-old remains in custody to facilitate interrogations.
