CHLORAKAS - 16 OF THOSE ARRESTED HELD ON 8 DAY DETENTION ORDERS

Filenews 29 August 2023 - by Dora Christodoulou

The situation was defused in the early hours of the morning in Chloraka, after the use of tear gas and the special vehicle Ajax of the Police and remains calm today.

A short while ago, 16 of the 21 arrested were brought before the Pafos District Court and eight days of detention orders were issued against them. Four others were released because they were found not to be involved in the incidents, while a fifth person was released because he was a minor.

Among the detainees is the 47-year-old Syrian who yesterday was the face of the day for the whole of Cyprus when in statements to the television cameras he did not hesitate in an angry tone to issue threats that he would "turn Pafos upside down".

In the evening, while he had become a familiar figure on social media, again before the television camera he apologized, attributing his verbal extremes to nerves and anxiety from the situation that had been created. And a few minutes later, he ended up in the cell after being again at the center of the new incidents that took place in Chloraka, but also under the influence of drugs.

Proving that he was anything but remorseful, the 47-year-old was spotted participating in the new incidents in Chloraka just a few minutes after he had left the meeting with the Minister of Justice and Public Order and the Chief of Police, in which he appeared as one of the representatives of the Syrians of the community!

The 47-year-old was spotted minutes later in a vehicle with other compatriots carrying offensive instruments, underwent a drug test with a positive indication and then attacked police officers.
