With the imminent operation of the Akamas National Forest Park public use of the dangerous road from the picturesque Baths of Aphodite to Fontana Amorosa will no longer be allowed.
This is what Philenews reports, adding that the government’s decision aims to preserve the forest areas but is also based on the fact that three people died in traffic accidents there in recent years. And a number of people – mainly tourists – suffered serious injuries from accidents there with buggy and quad bikes.
The latest serious accident took place early this week after a young Austrian tourist on a quad bike fell off a cliff in the area and is now hospitalized in critical condition.
In November 2018, a Russian couple who were visiting the island died after falling off a 30-metre cliff with the vehicle they were driving in.
In August 2021, a father and daughter from France fell off a cliff about 150 metres deep and ended up in the sea in the area. They were on a buggy and the father died instantly while the daughter was seriously injured.
Use of the dangerous road will only be allowed to vehicles of the competent authorities and owners of enclosed plots of land.
This means that pedestrians and cyclists will be able to safely use the road which leads to the famous Blue Lagoon beach where swimming is allowed and several boats are also moored.
