American University of Beirut- Mediterraneo

AUB in Paphos starts in September with 5 undergraduate and 2 postgraduate programmes

The American University of Beirut is ready to accept its first students for the academic year 2023-2024 and begins its operation in Paphos, under the name American University of Beirut – Mediterraneo. The expansion of the renowned American University of Beirut in Cyprus marks a new course in its long history.

The American University of Beirut – Mediterraneo (AUB Mediterraneo) is the first ABB duo outside Lebanon and follows the same liberal model. The University of Pafos is expected to attract students from all over the Mediterranean basin (eastern Mediterranean, North Africa, southern Europe and the Balkans) and beyond. It is also expected to attract talented students, as well as recruit Cypriot professors and staff members. "The best and brightest Cypriots have long sought out universities in Greece, Britain and Lebanon for their studies, with the American University of Beirut being among the destinations of choice for generations of Cypriots, until the worsening violence of Lebanon's civil war ended this practice in the late 1980s." said President of the American University of Beirut (AUB) – Mediterraneo, Paphos, Fadlo R. Khuri. Speaking at the ceremony of laying the foundation stone of the AUB by the President of the Republic last month, Mr. Dr. Khuri said that "the university is returning to serve the people of Cyprus in one of its most historic cities, where the Apostle Paul baptized the first Christians beyond the Levant." He added that the University, "with the creation of the first twin campus in Cyprus, expresses the determination, wisdom and sense of purpose required to ensure that AUB Mediterraneo faithfully serves the people of Cyprus, Lebanon, the Arab world, Greece, the Mediterranean countries and beyond."

The President of the Republic Mr. Nikos Christodoulides lays the foundation stone of the American University of Beirut Mediterraneo Carob Mill Building Complex, Paphos, Cyprus

Construction of the campus

The AUB Mediterraneo campus is located in the heart of Paphos, in the former building complex of "Carob Mills. The work is at a very advanced stage with the aim of completing it in a few months. The University is temporarily operating on the premises of the Pafos Innovation Centre, which is a state-of-the-art small campus in the centre of Paphos and will welcome its first students in September.

Affordable tuition, scholarships and financial support

The Rector of the American University of Beirut – Mediterraneo, Professor Wassim El Hajj, states that the tuition reflects the educational excellence acquired and maintained by the American University of Beirut during its long history. "The tuition fees are affordable and will be even more attractive if we take into account the possibilities of scholarships and financial support that we offer and our students will enjoy, since AUB Mediterraneo is a non-profit Academic Institution and as such has this possibility," he says. He also notes that for local students planning to study abroad, the total cost of studying will be much lower for a comparable quality of education, since the family will incur much less cost than if their child attended a foreign university commensurate with the prestige and level of AUB. Graduates of AUB Mediterraneo will secure recognized degrees from both the European Union and the USA or anywhere else in the world. The University is English-speaking and all degrees (Bachelor) are four-year studies.
