Fireworks thrown during a wedding reception or a birthday party or whatever other celebration in Cyprus seem to be keeping the Fire Brigade on their toes.
In fact, the Brigade was called to intervene twice over the weekend when fireworks thrown during different wedding receptions caused a small fire, Philenews reported on Tuesday.
Fires caused by fireworks are on the rise and it is quite worrying – especially in this heat, said Brigade spokesman Andreas Kettis.
Fireworks can be extremely dangerous and cause large fires, he added.
Informed sources said the use of fireworks in Cyprus is uncontrolled and – in most cases – without securing the necessary permit.
Fireworks are sold illegally – through connections and acquaintances – and are in the range of €10 each.
Police seem unable to get a witness testimony even after a report is made.
It is something that lasts a few seconds only, but huge risks are involved, an insider also said.
