In an incident that occurred on Monday afternoon at the Port of Kato Paphos, a 37-year-old traffic policeman of the Pafos Municipality was injured.
According to the spokesperson of the Pafos Police Authority and Head of the Pafos ICF, Michalis Nicolaou, at 18:30 on Monday two persons, a 37-year-old traffic policeman and a 54-year-old citizen, filed complaints with the Police, accusing each other of assaulting and beating him.
From the examinations so far, as reported by the police, it appears that the traffic policeman was talking to a third person about some kind of illegality he had committed and the 54-year-old allegedly intervened and both argued.
The 37-year-old traffic policeman claimed that he was attacked by the 54-year-old citizen, while the 54-year-old said in his complaint to the police that he was first attacked by the traffic policeman.
The traffic policeman was taken to the Accident and Emergency Department of Paphos General Hospital where he was found to have actual bodily injury and specifically abrasions.
The 54-year-old did not visit Paphos Hospital.
Written statements were taken from both of them, Nicolaou said, noting that statements will also be taken from independent witnesses to clarify the case.
