CRIME ROUND UP

Two foreigners of Arab origin were arrested at dawn in Tremithousa.

They were caught red-handed by members of the Pafos police while unloading scaffolding that they had stolen from an erected building.

Other scaffolding was found at the site and it is being examined whether this also may have been stolen from other construction sites.

A new arrival of migrants occurred at midnight on Saturday, when a boat was spotted by the Port and Maritime Police 17 nautical miles east of Cape Greco, carrying 47 people, 38 men, 3 women and 6 children.

The migrants were picked up and transported safely to the Ayia Napa Marina fishing shelter and late in the afternoon they were transferred to the Pournara Temporary Accommodation Centre.

During their interrogation, they said that they started on Thursday at 05:00 from the beach of the Latakia area in Syria, after paying $ 2000 each. The examinations carried out revealed testimony against a 34-year-old person (driver of the boat), who was arrested to facilitate the interrogations.

The ICF of Famagusta continues the examinations.

A total of 43 drivers were reported in a single night in the Paphos district, as part of a coordinated operation by the members of the Pafos Police and the MMAD to prevent crime and road collisions.

Pafos Police Director Nikos Tsapis told "F" that a total of 43 complaints were made on Saturday night, of which 17 concerned drivers under the influence of alcohol and two under the influence of drugs. Of those, he said, five were found in the Polis Chrysochous apartment.

"Also, in the context of combating noise pollution," Mr. Tsapis stressed, "in the area of Polis Chrysochous a recreation centre was searched pursuant to a court warrant. Instruments transmitting music were confiscated from this and the business was closed because the owner did not have the relevant licenses."

In total, the Paphos Police Director concluded, six leisure centres in the Chrysochous area were reported because they did not have required permits, while a driver in the same area was arrested after a small amount of drugs was found in his possession.

Police have arrested the 66-year-old taxi driver who dragged and fatally wounded 60-year-old McCallum Sandra Kaee.

As mentioned in a previous report, the fatal traffic accident occurred shortly before midnight on Saturday, when the 66-year-old taxi driver was traveling on the Larnaka-Dhekelia coastal road, dragged and injured two women aged 60 and 51, who had earlier disembarked from a taxi at the scene.

The two women were seriously injured and taken to Larnaka General Hospital. Shortly afterwards, the 61-year-old succumbed to her injuries.
