CRIME ROUND UP

The vehicle used by the perpetrators of three burglaries last night in Argaka, Drouseia and Kathika was set ablaze.

Late in the afternoon it was spotted burning in a rural area of the village of Tremithousa. The perpetrators had stolen the vehicle they used.

A wild chase took place a while ago in the center of Mesa Chorio. The police used gunfire to arrest a wanted man.

The latter collided first with civilian cars and then with police vehicles in his attempt to escape but was eventually arrested.

Police yesterday proceeded on the basis of court warrants to arrest two persons, in connection with recent cases of extortion of money, by persons posing as doctors.

They are a 66-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman, who were detained to facilitate interrogations.

In a search of their home yesterday based on a court warrant, a sum of money amounting to €16,000 was found, as well as gold and gold sovereigns, which were confiscated as evidence, to investigate whether they are part of the property taken.

The ICF of Larnaca continues the examinations.

NB There has since been an arrest of a third person.

Members of the Police (OPOD Headquarters), while conducting traffic checks last night on the Larnaka-Kofinou motorway, located and intercepted shortly after midnight, a car, which was moving at a speed of 235kph instead of 100, which is the permissible limit.

Subsequent examinations revealed that the driver of the vehicle was a 42-year-old man, who was arrested for a flagrant offence.

The 42-year-old driver underwent a preliminary narcotest test with a positive result.

He was then released to appear (for the offence of exceeding the speed limit) next Monday 3/07/2023, before the Larnaca District Court.

The Kofinou Regional Police Station continues the examinations.

An explosion of an explosive device, which was placed at the entrance of a café in Frenaros, occurred at 2:20 after midnight.

No injuries were reported from the explosion. Material damage was caused to the entrance of the café.

The scene was cordoned off by police and guarded. Pyrotechnics were expected to visit the scene at first light today to collect evidence in the police's effort to solve the case.
