Filenews 4 June 2023
Police arrested a 37-year-old man yesterday to facilitate investigations into an ongoing case of car theft, theft of vehicle registration plates and illegal possession of property.
Specifically, around 3.10 p.m. yesterday, members of the Limassol OPE, who were on motorized patrol, spotted a car moving on a Limassol road, bearing stolen registration plates. Members of the Police signalled the driver to stop for checking, but he tried to flee. The police followed him and managed to intercept him nearby.
From the examinations that followed, it was found that the driver of the vehicle was a 37-year-old resident of Limassol, while after identifying the real details of the vehicle, it was found that it had been reported to the Police, as stolen, on May 4, 2023. Upon further examination, a mobile phone and other items were found inside the vehicle and confiscated, for which the 37-year-old did not give a satisfactory explanation as to how they came into his possession.
The 37-year-old was arrested for flagrant offences and taken into custody to facilitate interrogations. This morning he was brought before the Limassol District Court, which issued a five-day detention order against him.
The ICF Limassol is investigating the case.
