The Plenum of Parliament approved a law allowing the payment of the special rent defence levy in two instalments, instead of a monthly payment. The proposal to amend the Special Levy for the Defence of the Republic Law, submitted by EDEK MP Ilias Myrianthous, received 30 positive votes, while two MPs abstained.
With this amendment, the special defence levy deducted from rents could be paid in two six-monthly instalments instead of the previous monthly payment.
This initiative arose from the recognition of the fact that the obligation to withhold and pay the contribution every month to the Tax Department created additional administrative costs for businesses. By simplifying the procedure for payment in six-monthly instalments, the aim is to reduce the administrative burden for businesses and facilitate compliance with payment obligations.
