MOBILE CAMERAS PLACED ELSEWHERE FROM INDICATED DESIGNATED POINTS, POLICE ADMIT

 in-cyprus 20 June 2023 - by Annie Charalambous

Police on Tuesday admitted of cases where mobile traffic camera operators did not adhere to the indicated designated points placing them in different locations instead – something that has prompted a public outcry.

Spokesman Andreas Christou also said that at a special meeting last week instructions were given by the chief of police on how to address the issue.

The meeting was prompted by various social media posts, photographs and complaints from citizens who referred to an inappropriate placement of mobile cameras.

Specifically, instructions were given for the re-evaluation of camera locations to avoid problematic spots and identify suitable locations with adequate space, away from nearby traffic lights.

In addition, Traffic Department officers were asked to conduct checks and also map the specific points where the mobile cameras are placed.

The distance between the warning signs and the cameras can range from 100 meters to five kilometers.

The officers will also document any outstanding issues relating to the camera system and arrange a meeting with the Ministry of Transport with all partied involved to take part.
