During the inspection operation, one person was arrested, who allegedly attacked the members of the Police.

The inspection operation was carried out in the context of the daily actions of the Police to tackle traffic offences, reduce serious and fatal road collisions, and increase safety on the road network. During the checks, a total of 123 traffic violations were detected and reported.

Among the checks and complaints, 37 complaints of persons who were found driving vehicles without holding a driving license and without being covered by an insurance certificate stand out. The five complaints of persons driving vehicles for which there was no valid certificate of suitability – MOT – MOT are also distinguished, as well as the 12 complaints of persons who were found driving vehicles, which are registered with the Department of Road Transport – TOM, as immobilized.

Four motorcyclists and two cyclists were charged with failing to wear protective helmets, two drivers of vehicles were charged with driving under the influence of drugs, and a further 24 complaints were made for various other traffic offences.

For the purposes of police investigations into traffic offences, 39 vehicles were intercepted, including 13 motorcycles and 26 cars.

During the control operations, shortly before 12.30 noon, the members of Group "Z" noticed three youths driving on a road in the area of Polemidia, three motorcycles that did not have registration plates and tried to approach them for inspection. The three drivers developed speed to escape, while at the same time, about ten other youths, who were in a nearby park, entered the road and started throwing stones at the police, resulting in one of the policemen being hit in the leg by a stone.

After police tried to stop the stone-throwing suspects, they fled on foot. In his attempt to escape, one of the suspects, aged 20, entered the courtyard of an adjacent residence, and from the two-meter-high terrace on the front of the house, jumped and fell to the ground, as a result of which he was stopped and arrested by the members of the Police, for the offense of assaulting a police officer.

On the veranda of the house was a woman, who was holding her grandchild, a 20-month-old girl. At the sight of the suspect inside the yard of the house, the 20-month-old infant fell from his grandmother's arms to the ground, but was not injured.

The 20-year-old suspect was searched and was found in possession of two nylon packages of cannabis weighing a total of approximately 7.49 grams. He was taken into custody for the purpose of police examinations, with the Polemidia Police Station and the YKAN (Limassol District Unit) investigating.

The Cyprus Police places particular emphasis on road safety, with the aim of reducing road traffic collisions, injuries, and loss of life on the road network. The daily traffic controls for the suppression of traffic offences, as well as the constant information of the public by the Police, aim to cultivate and consolidate road consciousness.

In order to achieve the legitimate results, however, it is necessary for everyone to contribute, either through the action of the competent bodies and organized groups, or individually on behalf of all those who use and move on the road network.

In compliance and observance of traffic regulations and safety measures, all those traveling on the road network are once again called by the Police, contributing to the work carried out and the efforts made in the field of road safety.
