The national plan of the Deputy Ministry of Innovation for the implementation of electronic identity and electronic signature, for the identification of citizens' data and the conduct of electronic transactions is ready. According to a competent source from the Deputy Ministry, operations through this tool will be carried out with absolute security and legal force.
It is a tool that will free the hands of citizens, as they will be able to do procedures for which they would previously have to switch to services from their mobile or computer. The registration will reportedly take place through the online portal of the qualified trust service provider and will be in the form of a QR Code.
As mentioned on the official website of the Deputy Ministry of Innovation, it is a modern form of signature used in electronic files, documents, tenders and has the following characteristics:
• It uniquely connects the signature with the signatory
• It is created in a way that the person signing controls the signing mechanism (knows when and what he signs)
• It is connected to the electronic document signed electronically, in such a way that any subsequent change in the data of the signed document is traceable (integrity assurance)
• It is based on an approved certificate of electronic signature.
Where the issue gets bogged down is the cost, as it is not yet clear who will shoulder it. As philenews informs, the Deputy Minister of Innovation, Filippos Hadjizacharias, suggested to the Government that the first three years, which are the validity period of the electronic signature, be undertaken by the state. This proposal is expected to be discussed in the near future with all stakeholders.
However, according to a well-informed source, the plan is expected to be implemented by the end of June.
