A 71-year-old British tourist who had dived with a group of other divers in a diving spot in the area died yesterday in the sea of Geroskipou.
The elderly man lost consciousness after completing the dive and while he was with the rest of the group on the boat that took them back to shore.
The diving of the amateur divers, accompanied by a professional of a relevant diving school, took place on Thursday afternoon in the area of Moulia, located off Geroskipou beach and is a well-known diving site.
According to police, the 71-year-old completed the diving program along with the rest of the team and emerged to the surface, entering like the rest of the divers the boat that took them to the place.
There, the 71-year-old lost consciousness and immediately received first aid from the attending instructor but to no avail. An ambulance picked him up on shore, which had been alerted in the meantime, and took him to Paphos Hospital where doctors confirmed his death.
Investigations into the causes of death are ongoing.
