Police arrested a 29-year-old man for assaulting police officers and illegally entering the territory of the Republic of Cyprus.

Specifically, at around 3.30 yesterday afternoon, a 29-year-old man presented himself at the crossing point of Ledra Street to pass through the occupied areas to the free areas.

During the verification of his data by an Officer of the Civil Registry and Migration, it was found that he did not have the right of passage to the free areas.

The 29-year-old left the crossing point and remained in the buffer zone for some time. At some point he ran to the checkpoint to gain entry into the free areas. Immediately three members of the police tried to stop him and as a result they were attacked by the 29-year-old.

He was pursued by another member of the Police and stopped on an adjacent street on Ledra Street where he was arrested for the offences of illegal entry into the territory of the Republic of Cyprus and assault against members of the Police.

The three members of the Police who were attacked were transferred to Nicosia General Hospital where they were discharged after receiving first aid. One member of the police has a fractured shoulder while the other two members have bruises on various parts of their bodies.

The Nicosia Central Police Station continues the examinations.

A 35-year-old woman who was wanted in connection with an ongoing burglary and theft case was arrested and detained.

This is a case of burglary of a café, in the Nicosia district, committed on May 27, 2023, around 4.30 in the morning. A sum of money was stolen from the cafeteria, while a sliding door of the premises, which had been burglarized, was damaged.

The investigation of the case revealed evidence against the 35-year-old. After a court arrest warrant was issued against her and she was wanted, on May 31, the police proceeded to publish her details and photograph, in order to collect information that could lead to her location. Once located and arrested, there is no need to further publish the photo and its details.

The case is being investigated by the Pera Chorio Police Station.

A 33-year-old British woman living in a villa in Agios Georgios in Pegeia reported to the police that unknown persons broke into her villa and stole gold and other valuables with a total value of  €7000 for which there is no insurance coverage.

According to the complaint, the perpetrators entered the residence through a closed but unsecured aluminium kitchen window between the hours of 12 noon and five in the afternoon when she was absent.

A young Greek Cypriot woman who regularly employs the authorities was arrested by police last night. She was in possession of stolen goods, drugs, offensive instruments and burglary tools.

The 35-year-old's vehicle was stopped for inspection and gold items, women's handbags and mobile phones believed to be stolen as well as a noxious gas launcher and dummy pistol were found in her possession.

Burglar tools and a small amount of drugs were also found. A 20-year-old Greek Cypriot who is considered her accomplice is also being sought in the same case.

In a rural area between Nata and Episkopi, the double-cab vehicle used by the perpetrators of the attempted robbery of a bakery at dawn in Paphos was found.

The vehicle had been stolen the day before while parked and locked outside its owner's home in Paphos. Apparently to cover their tracks, the perpetrators set fire to the vehicle and completely destroyed it.
