UP TO €4,000 FINE FOR NON-ACCEPTANCE OF CARD FOR PAYMENT

The administrative fine reaches up to €4,000 based on the relevant decrees for non-compliance of businesses with the obligation to accept card-based payment instruments, the Tax Department said in a statement.

In its announcement, the Department recalls that according to article 30A of the Assessment and Collection of Taxes Law (N4/1978), businesses included in the annex to Decree ΚΔΠ 259/2021 and in the amending Decrees ΚΔΠ 446/2021, ΚΔΠ 52/2022, ΚΔΠ 248/2022, are obliged, in the context of their transactions with consumers, to accept card-based payment instruments for the completion of payment transactions.

According to article 50F of the Assessment and Collection of Taxes Law, failure to comply with the provisions of the above Decrees is subject to an administrative fine of up to four thousand euros.

It also notes that the Department carries out continuous checks and examines all complaints received, imposing the penalties required by law, without necessarily making public its results or actions.
