Under the theme "Cultural heritage in a changing world", the 18th of April is also celebrated in Cyprus, a date established in 1983 by UNESCO as the International Day of Monuments and Sites. The main event for this purpose will take place today, with the inauguration of the Archaeological Site of Kato Pafos, which is under the protection of UNESCO. The exhibition will be inaugurated by the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafeadis, who is currently touring Paphos.

The official ceremony in Paphos will also include a photo exhibition and a music programme by the Paphos Music Lyceum. An announcement by the Department of Antiquities notes that, in honour of the International Day of Monuments and Sites in 2023, the Department of Antiquities is organizing a series of events in all districts that include free admission for all visitors to a number of archaeological sites and monuments.

April 18 was established in 1983 by UNESCO as the International Day of Monuments and Sites, following a proposal by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS).

For the celebration of this important day, with the ultimate goal of raising society's awareness of the importance of culture, each year a different theme is promoted, which becomes an occasion for organizing events and various actions, with the participation of citizens, in order to come into direct contact and get to know all aspects of the cultural heritage of the place.
