A tree planting event in memory of former Chief Firefighter Charalambos Varnavides, who passed away prematurely, was held on Friday by the staff of Pafos fire stations in cooperation with the Community Council of Tala, according to the spokesman of the Cyprus Fire Service Andreas Kettis.
In statements to CNA, Mr. Kettis said that the protection of forests and vegetation in the countryside is a legacy from grandparents and a dowry to our children.
Moreover, the District Officer of the Pafos Fire Stations, Socrates Kyriakides, said that the area of tree planting was granted by the community of Tala in memory of the former Chief Firefighter Charalambos Varnavides, sending, as he said, the message that "there are no trees left in our place to destroy".
The trees, he said, were donated free of charge by the Department of Forests.
He then thanked the C.S. of Talas for the concession of the plot, the Department of Forests for the concession of the seedlings for tree planting as well as the family of his late colleague.
