How to implement the project of constructing breakwaters in front of the hotels up to the Port of Kato Pafos, sets the Mayor of Geroskipou, Kyriakos Hadjivassilis. In statements to CNA, Mr. Hadjivassilis said that for the breakwater project, which will contribute to the protection and improvement of the southwestern coasts of the Municipalities of Geroskipou and Pafos, environmental approval by the competent authority is expected.
The approval, he added, had been given, but was subsequently withdrawn on 23.12.2022 due to the need for specific clarifications of its content.
Mr. Hadjivassilis noted that the Ministry of Transport and the Department of Maritime Works, as the most experts on the subject, should undertake the tendering of the project. In addition, he continued, the way of implementing the project should be decided, the Supervision Team so that the appropriate planning can be made.
The mayor of Geroskipou also referred to the delay observed in the completion of the Geroskipou artificial reef project.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment in a letter dated 26.3.19 said Mr. Hadjivassilis had informed them that the tender notice for the extension of the technical reef expired in December 2018 and no bid was submitted.
As he said, after communicating with the Director of the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research (DFMR), he was informed that the Department of Public Works will have the responsibility to announce and supervise the project.
According to a relevant briefing, Mr. Hadjivassilis said, the announcement of the project would be made within the 1st half of 2021 and would have been completed within one year from the award of the relevant contract.
On the above issues, he concluded, he has already informed the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafeadis during his recent visit to the Municipality of Geroskipou.
