A human skull was found in the area between Koloni and Agia Marinouda, near Geroskipou, in the Paphos district and the police raised the alarm. The skull was discovered by dogs during their walk in the area and it is estimated that they transferred it to the premises of their livestock owner.
As he informed the Police, this human find was found in the morning outside his livestock premises, estimating that it was transported there by his dogs that move in the area. The wider area was cordoned off by the Police and searches for any other human remains began at the scene, with the participation of detection dogs and Civil Defence volunteers.
The findings were received by the Police and have already been sent to the laboratories of the competent services for examinations, in order to form a picture of the conditions of existence of the skull at the site and for evidence that may give identification of the findings. Preliminarily, authorities estimate that the skull does not belong to a recently deceased person, but the time of death will be formalized after scientific analyses. The possibility that the discovery of the skull is related to the neighboring old rubbish dump of Pafos that operated for decades in Agia Marinouda as a dumping site for all rubbish without any processing and control is also being examined.
Investigations are ongoing.
