Running in Cyprus, organizer of the Logicom Cyprus Marathon, through its actions and initiatives for positive action against climate change, launched the initiative "You Run, We Plant".
According to a relevant announcement, the initiative concerns the planting of a tree for each runner who completes the distance of the Marathon (42,195 km), a race that starts from Petra tou Romiou and finishes at the Medieval Castle of Pafos.
The first tree planting took place in the village of Kouklia with 400 saplings, as well as the number of Marathon runners who took part in this year's Marathon.
The community of Kouklia hosts the start of the Marathon and is located on the route of the first eight kilometres of the route covered by the runners of the Logicom Cyprus Marathon.
The role of the Community Council of Kouklia was also vital, as they dedicated a site where a park with more than 10,000 trees and shrubs will be planted in the coming years.
The President of the Community Council, Michalakis Nikolaou, showed his appreciation to the sponsoring company ADSTERRA, awarding a thank you plaque for its support to the whole initiative. At the same time, the local community has undertaken the responsibility to constantly water the plants and to continue the further development of the park.
Finally, it is noted that the 26th Marathon will take place on March 3, 2024 in Paphos.
