MINORS SET FIRE TO LIMASSOL HIGH SCHOOLS

Three incidents in three different high schools in Limassol were recorded this morning on the occasion of the closure of schools. Specifically, at Agia Fyla High School around 10:30, about 40 people wearing hoodies of sweatshirts, holding smoke canisters, some of them entered the schoolyard and placed around 10 car tires and two plastic cones.

The Police and Fire Brigade were immediately notified and went to the scene. At the sight of the police, the youths left the school. Later, at the same school, an unknown person lit a car tire which was extinguished by the Fire Brigade. Testimony was obtained against a 14-year-old student that he participated and was summoned to the Station for questioning in the presence of parents, a lawyer and the Welfare Office.

Also a similar incident happened at the Zakaki High School where again youths were carrying about 26 car tires, a concrete with flammable material that they doused but did not manage to light a fire. Police also went but no suspicious person was identified.

A short while ago, the police were alerted again about a fire at Kalogeropoulos High School. Members of the Police and Fire Brigade went to the scene where a fire was raging in a garbage container and inside there were car tires. During this operation, members of the Limassol OPE noticed 4 persons wearing hoods and holding torches which they arrested. These are minors 14-15 years old.
