The area of Paphos is famous all over the world for its green nature, but also for its crystal clear beaches. Along with the awarding of 18 Blue Flags throughout the province, Pafos has been distinguished and managed to win the European Silver "Quality Beach" award for 2022-23 and to be among the top 100 green destinations in Europe.
Following the recommendation of the Pafos Tourism Board, the institution has been extended and now covers the beaches of Argaka, Gialia and Pomos. Thus, the entire coastline of Pafos is now recognized and attractive, especially to visitors who are interested in combining holidays and enjoyment in nature in a destination with enchanting scenery, which takes care of and preserves the quality of the environment and follows practices for the protection and promotion of local identity and cultural heritage.
The Silver award and a place in the list of the TOP 100 greenest coastal and island areas in Europe, honours Pafos but at the same time commits it to continue and improve the practices it follows. With this award, Paphos becomes even more known for its unparalleled beauty, for its picturesque beaches and the rich and rare vegetation with the dominant area of Polis Chrysochous and Neo Chorio up to Pomos.
The main criteria for the selection of areas are water cleanliness, biodiversity of areas, environment, actions for proper environmental behaviour (eg saving natural resources), their socio-economic status, their cultural heritage, lack of air pollution, noise rates, quality of tourist infrastructure, safety, accessibility, easy access to information and much more.
