With the aim of promoting road development projects in the four Municipalities, the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafeadis, held meetings today with the Municipal Councils of Geroskipou, Paphos, Pegeia and Polis Chrysochous.
In statements after his meeting with the Mayor of Pafos, Phedon Phedonos, Mr. Vafeadis described the meeting with the Mayor of Pafos and the issues raised by the Local Authority as constructive.
Mr. Vafeadis sent the message that the Ministry of Transport is here and will stand by the Pafos Municipality, adding that they will do everything possible to help implement the vision of the Mayor of Pafos not only for the problems they face today, but also in the future for any problem that may arise.
During the meeting, the Mayor of Pafos raised the issue of the project for the unification of the archaeological sites of Kato Pafos, the project of Phase B of the road of the tourist area and Pafos International Airport and the pending issue concerning the section from the river of Ezousa to Pafos airport.
Mr. Phedonos also raised the issue of the maintenance of the road network of Pafos, which is the responsibility, as he said, of the Department of Public Works. He also raised the issue of moving the warehouse of the Department of Public Works to an area outside the boundaries of the Municipality due to nuisance.
He also referred to the amendment of the Legislation to allow the circulation of wheeled trains with wagons. Finally, he raised the issue of the disposal to the Municipality of Pafos of the replacement of metal fencing of the Archaeological Park of Kato Pafos.
In addition, Mr. Phedonos referred to the islet of the Pafos-Limassol motorway towards the entrance of the city of Pafos, describing the situation as tragic due to weeds. The picture is unacceptable, he added.
The Mayor of Pafos, Phedon Phedonos, in his statements after the end of the meeting, referred to the positive response of the Minister of Transport to the problems posed to Mr. Vafeadis.
We will monitor the implementation and resolution of what we discussed and decided today. He also said that from time to time such meetings will be held to make an assessment of what has been done, what is pending and what has come up.
He also added that the most basic thing that the Minister of Transport said is that "we must plan strategically and for the future of Paphos", he concluded.
