A 46-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday night by the Paphos Police following a complaint by an officer of the Turkish Cypriot Property Management Service in Paphos that the person in question threatened to kill the head of the service. The reason for the threats, based on police investigations, was the interruption of the electricity supply to the Turkish Cypriot premises in which the 46-year-old resides, but without having the legal right to use this premises.
According to the complaint, the suspect called the Service at noon on Wednesday and after mentioning his name, asked to be informed about who is responsible for the power cut to a specific Turkish Cypriot residence in Polis Chrysochous, where he and his family live.
According to the complainant employee, the same person called again shortly afterwards and stated that because he considers the Service responsible for the power cut in his place of residence, he will take his gun and go to Nicosia to kill the Director of the Service, in his expression.
According to the spokesman of the Pafos Police Directorate, Michalis Nicolaou, the testimonies of the officials of the Turkish Cypriot property management show that this residence was vacated in 2019 due to the death of its legal tenant and since then it has remained closed and unsold to any beneficiary. According to the complaint, the suspect and his family have been staying illegally in the house for the past few days. This was the reason, he stressed, that the power was cut by the Service.
