A 57-year-old woman was arrested in Spain to facilitate investigations into an ongoing case of online fraud under a European Arrest Warrant, who was transferred on Tuesday to Cyprus, where she was arrested under the National Arrest Warrant pending against her and detained.
The case was reported to the ICF of Limassol by the legal counsel of a company, where, according to the complaint, in May, 2019 her company placed an order for products from a foreign company, with which, as the complainant stated, there had been cooperation in recent years.
After the completion of the order, the complainant's company made a transfer of €93,187, to an account indicated via emails, from the foreign bank. However, later, in communication with the supplier company, they found that it was a fraud and that an email was intercepted, since the account where the remittance was made does not belong to the supplying company.
The Financial Crime Investigation Office of the ICF Limassol is investigating the case.
On the occasion of this new case, the Police remind the public and especially traders, that every transaction over the internet carries risks and must always be done with great care.
It also advises, that in case they receive such messages, before proceeding with the payment of invoices, to always verify the message by telephone with the sellers. For such communication, the telephone number with which the two sides have been in contact again or indicated in messages exchanged between them in previous transactions should be used.
Company owners or directors are encouraged to inform their company's staff about this form of fraud and to implement procedures to verify the payment requests they receive.

Police arrested a 41-year-old resident of Nicosia to facilitate investigations into eight investigated theft cases yesterday.
Around 11pm yesterday, members of the Police stopped a car moving on a Nicosia street for inspection. It was found that the driver of the vehicle was a 41-year-old resident of Nicosia. A search of the vehicle identified and received as evidence. various burglary tools, resulting in the 41-year-old being arrested for a flagrant offence.
Under questioning, the 41-year-old allegedly admitted to committing eight cases of theft and attempted theft committed in Nicosia, as well as suggesting scenes.
The Nicosia Central Police Station continues the examinations.

Police arrested a 47-year-old woman to facilitate investigations into an ongoing car theft case last night.
According to the Police, the case concerned a complaint made to the ICF of Limassol last Monday, for theft from a car of a sum of money amounting to €5,000, as well as other items.
As part of an investigation into the case, testimony emerged against the 47-year-old, who was arrested on a court warrant.
A search of her car found items that were part of the stolen property, as well as bundles of car keys of various makes, for which she did not give a satisfactory explanation for their origin.
The ICF Limassol continues the examinations.
