The defendant in the murder case of 58-year-old Ioannis Polycarpou, in Paphos, replied yesterday to the main charge he faces, that of premeditated murder.
The 45-year-old appeared before the Permanent Assize Court sitting in Paphos, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge of premeditated murder, which also faces charges of possession of burglary tools, an offensive weapon and cannabis, while admitting to the use of cannabis.
The Court subsequently ordered that the 45-year-old remain in custody and set the case for further court proceedings on July 10, 2023 at 09:30. Polycarpou was fatally injured when he was swept away on his motorcycle by a vehicle allegedly driven by the 45-year-old.
The fatal road collision occurred in the early hours of January 21, on the Avenue of the Tombs of the Kings and the driver fled the scene. The 58-year-old was injured in the collision and taken by ambulance to Paphos General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
