Cyprus Mail 24 May 2023 - by Nikolaos Prakas

Health Minister Popi Kanari said on Wednesday that €5 million would be given to upgrading medical equipment at hospitals, out of a total €74.1 million earmarked to upgrade the national health scheme (Gesy).

She said the plan will include the purchase of new medical and technological equipment, with an emphasis on digital technology.

“It is intended to subsidise medical technology equipment, either to replace existing, possibly outdated, or to cover additional needs. Through the plan, the aim is to strengthen competitiveness and upgrade health services, in line with the wider objectives of the Cyprus Recovery and Resilience Plan,” she said.

Kanari said that the plan will be financed by Next Generation EU funds, through which 133 investment and reform measures are promoted, reflecting integrated planning in Cyprus to strengthen the resilience of the economy.

In particular, she said, the policy axis under the title ‘Public Health and Civil Protection – Lessons from the Pandemic’, with a budget of €74.1 million, includes measures that will contribute to increasing the preparedness, resilience and quality of the services of Gesy.
