72 FIRES AND 114 CALLS FOR HELP TO THE FIRE SERVICE OVER 3 DAYS

The Fire Service responded to a total of 72 fires, 114 calls for help and 36 special services in the last three days.

According to a statement from the Agency, the most serious of these were:

From 26/05/2023 (06:00) to 27/05/2023 (06:00)

- At 20:04 there was a gas leak from a 500 liter cylinder in a tavern in Ayia Napa. Famagusta Fire Station Response Sergeant Adamou Adamou. The leak was located at the base of the cylinder. All operational procedures were followed by the Fire Brigade and insurance of the area, until the transfusion of LPG by a private company. The leakage of LPG was due to corrosion of the cylinder due to exposure to the elements.

- At 23:04 response to a fire in a vehicle after a road accident on the Kokkinotrimithia – Nicosia motorway. The vehicle, after deviating from its course, collided with a guardrail and ignited. The driver had exited the vehicle in question before it ignited. Extensive damage to the vehicle. Response from Lakatamia Fire Station.

- At 04:02 response to a fire in a vehicle parked in a parking lot in Anthoupoli in Nicosia district. Extensive damage to the front of the vehicle. Response from Lakatamia Fire Station. The fire was extinguished by the owner before the arrival of the Fire Department. Upon investigation, the fire was caused by arson.

From 27/05/2023 (06:00) to 28/05/2023 (06:00)

- 09:35 response to a fire in four hectares of dry grass, low wild vegetation and trees in the "Koudokatoura" area of Agia Varvara community in Paphos district. The Fire Brigade operated from Pafos District Fire Stations, with reinforcement from the Department of Forests, the Game Service, four volatile firefighting means and two agricultural tractors. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

- At 12:38 response to a fire in one hectare of dry grass, low wild vegetation and seventy olive trees in a rural area of the community of Agios Ioannis Malountas in Nicosia district. The Fire Brigade operated from the Nicosia District Fire Brigade Stations with support from the Department of Forests. After investigation, the fire was due to the transfer of fire after a process of preparing food from a wood oven to dry grass in an open area.

- At 12:41 response to a fire in two hectares of dry grass, low wild vegetation and a number of trees on plots in the area "Kalogeroi" in Moutagiakka, Limassol district. The Fire Brigade operated from the Limassol District Fire Stations with support from the Department of Forests. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

- At 14:53 the support of the Department of Forests for a fire in the area "Dense" of the community of Kathikas in the district of Pafos, with ground forces from the Fire Stations of Pafos district.

- At 19:30 response to a fire in a makeshift shack (prefabricated) measuring approximately 3x8 meters, which was used for storage of recyclable materials in the community of Agia Marina Chrysochous in the district of Paphos, which suffered extensive damage. Response from Polis Chrysochous Fire Station. Upon investigation, the fire appears to be due to a malicious act by minors.

From 28/05/2023 (06:00) to 29/05/2023 (06:00)

- At 13:40 support of the Department of Forests for a fire in an area north of the community of Anarita in Paphos district, with ground forces from the Pafos District Fire Stations.

- At 16:54 response to a fire in three prefabricated houses measuring approximately 3x8 meters, placed on a concrete base between the communities of Agia Marina and Gialia in the Paphos district. The houses were not used and there were useless materials placed inside them. They suffered extensive damage. Response from the Polis Chrysochous Fire Station. After investigation, the fire remains unknown with a possible cause of malicious act.

- At 19:12 response to a fire in a vehicle after a traffic accident, near the roundabout of Anthoupoli in Nicosia district. A vehicle collided with a vehicle in front, causing it to ignite. From the fire, the vehicle in question suffered extensive damage. His driver had exited before it ignited. The persons involved in the traffic accident were transported to the Nicosia Emergency Department by ambulances. Response of Lakatamia Fire Station.

- At 21:13 response to a fire in a ground floor apartment of a complex in Paphos District. The fire was on a mattress and bed in a bedroom and damage from heat and smoke was suffered by the masonry of the entire apartment. At the time of the fire, the occupants were absent. Response from Paphos Fire Station. Upon investigation, the fire appears to have been caused by a forgotten cigarette butt.
