TREMITHOUSA - 'HORRIBLE AND WRONG, BUT I WOULD DO IT AGAIN'

 Filenews 25 April 2023

With the testimony of Dr. Paraskevi Benjamin, a specialist psychiatrist at Athalassa Hospital and a neighbour of the couple in Tremithousa, continued on Monday the trial in the case of the death of a woman in Tremithousa, with her 74-year-old husband accused at the Permanent Assize Court sitting in Paphos.

As stated in Court, Dr. Benjamin had examined the defendant at the Athalassa Mental Hospital who, among other things, had told her how he killed his wife. He added, however, that he could not remember whether he told his brother, whom he called after the incident, that he had killed his wife or that he intended to kill himself.

According to Dr. Benjamin, the defendant also told the psychiatrist that it was "horrible and wrong" what he did, but that he would "do it again so as not to see his wife suffer, since she suffered from leukaemia".

In her testimony, a neighbour of the couple said that the couple had been living next to her for five years and said that during that time she had not noticed any incident of domestic violence.

The next hearing was set for May 8, 2023, followed by May 9 and 15, 2023.
