The Tax Department informs that an unsolicited email is circulating which, illegally, bears the logo of the Government Portal gov.cy, urging citizens to provide their bank account details in order to be refunded, with the following wording:
"During an audit of your tax return we were able to determine that you are entitled to state compensation due to your own overpayment – you will receive a refund of €. - Verify your bank and personal details in advance to get a refund..."
The above message is intended to steal bank account details of unsuspecting citizens and the Tax Department urges those who have received such a message to ignore it.
It is emphasized that the Tax Department communicates with the public ONLY through email addresses that end in: @tax.mof.gov.cy and that tax refunds are made only by transfer to a bank account whose IBAN the taxpayer declares to the Department with secure procedures through a specific form.
